What do you really want?

by Monica Aparicio on June 10, 2013

Six years ago I was in a constant state of wishing. I wished for many things in my life to not be as they were. It was frustrating. When the movie The Secret came out, there was so much hype around that movie and how it could show you how to have what you wanted. Naturally, out of curiosity, I got the movie off of Netflix. I remember watching it and thinking “this is the movie? This is a bunch of people just talking and explaining something”. I didn’t get it, so I never even finished watching it and returned it.

About a year later, when I was studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2007,  I was reintroduced to The Secret. Many classmates were talking about the Law of Attraction and how you can use the energy of your mind and your feeling state to manifest your dreams.

As I began to have conversations with my classmates who understood the teachings of the film, I realized that for a long time I had been focusing on what I DIDN’T want and because my energy and focus was flowing in the direction of what I was unhappy with, I wasn’t clear of what I actually wanted. My attention was in the wrong place.

Last year, Lisa and I met Bob Proctor, a student and teacher of the Law of Attraction for over 50 years and whose teachings gave the movie The Secret, it’s foundation. About 2 months before we flew out to L.A. for the conference at which Bob was facilitating, I had clearly stated to Lisa “we have to meet Bob, SOON“. At this point we had been studying the 11 Universal Laws for about a year and Bob Proctor and Mary Morrisey had become two of our most impacting mentors, even though we had never met them. Here is a photograph of Lisa and I with Bob and Mary.

The more I study these Laws the more I understand that where and how you place your attention determines how your desires come forth into being. Notice, when I told Lisa that we had to meet Bob I didn’t say “one day” or“eventually”, I said “SOON”. The other thing you should know is that when I made that statement I EXPECTED that we were going to meet him. There was no doubt that the opportunity would come for us to meet BOTH of these amazing teachers and 2 months later, it did.

As Bob says, “Desire, without expectation is idle wishing or dreaming. There is no use in desiring something unless you expect it”

Our programming, our unconscious stuff is what keeps us from staying with expectation. Out of bad habit, we can very easily move into a space of doubt and worry. When your outside circumstances don’t seem to reflect your desire it’s because your feeling state is in a place of doubt. This is why paying attention to your thinking is so important.

The mind is so incredibly powerful, so much so, that science has yet to understand the way in which the human mind operates. When it comes to these Laws or anything else in LIFE, just because you don’t understand something, doesn’t mean you should dismiss it. It takes application and practice, trial and error. Imagine giving up on walking when as a baby you were making the transition from crawling? You didn’t give up, you continued getting up and giving it a go.

Lisa, if you’re anything like me, sometimes you give up on your wishes because they are not happening fast enough. You question why it’s not coming, you wonder what you’re doing wrong, you start to doubt that it will ever come. Right? Please know that it’s normal and natural to feel that way, but if you are REALLY READY to receive what you ware wanting, start to study these LAWS.

Here is a simple method for using the Law of Attraction and the power of your mind:

1. Form a clear mental picture of your desire. See it as a movie, playing in your mind. Do not worry about HOW it will come, only focus on the WHAT of what you want.

2. Choose a time when you are in a restful condition, like right before bed or just after waking and play your movie in your head. The calmer and more peaceful you are, the better the results. Do not force the thought!

3. Do what you can to promote your desire coming forth into reality. This is part of expectation. Take necessary actions as often as you can.

4. When doubt creeps in, return to the original FEELING state of your desire and HOLD the thought in a calm and confident way.

5. Know that what you seek is already here, you are merely connecting to it with your thoughts and feelings. The clarity and strength of your demand will determine it’s arrival.

Lisa and I know that it can be challenging to get out out of a negative state of mind, which is why we have made breath work a part our own healing and one of the tools we use in our lives’ work. Breath work is an incredibly effective tool for breaking the destructive mental patterns that we fall into and BLOCK us from creating what we want in our lives.
